Jamia offers MA programme in Comparative Religions

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Jamia Millia Islamia University has invited applications for admission to its Masters programme in Comparative Religions, for which the last date is July 20.

A Jamia spokesperson said the course, launched last year by the Centre for the Study of Comparative Religions and Civilisations, has 35 seats on offer.

Candidates who have a graduate degree in any subject from a recognised University at least 45 per cent marks are eligible to apply.

Admissions will be through a written test, to be held on July 31, followed by an interview on August 8.

The course covers all the major religions and civilisations of the world, the spokesperson said.

''It is increasingly being felt that in a globalised world, there is an ever-increasing need for dialogue and interaction on religion and traditions,'' she said.

''The course focuses on the nature of religious experience, traditional and modern theories, approach and methodology of study of religion, the use of comparative method and interdisciplinary approach,'' she added.

Role of religious symbolism, myth, ritualism, animism, and totemism are some of the other areas which form part of the course.

The Centre for the Study of Comparative Religions and Civilisations also offers Ph D and M Phil programmes.

It offers 20 seats in the M Phil programme for which the last date for submission of applications is July 30.
