HP unveils server designed for Asia

Bangalore, July 12: Global IT major HP today introduced HPProLiant DL 180, a new server designed to deliver optimal outcomes forbusinesses in Asia.

Available exclusively in Asia Pacific and powered by the new DualCore Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors, the new HP server offers maximumperformance with the lowest cost per gigabit of data in its class. Theserver is priced at Rs one lakh and above depending on thespecifications.

Tony Parkinson, HP Vice President and General Manager, IndustryStandard Servers (ISS), HP Asia Pacific and Japan, addressing a pressconference here said, ''The DL 180 is designed for growth.

He said HP has invested in building -- from the ground up-- aserver packed with innovation, rich features and power efficiency buildon industry standards with the objective of meeting the needs ofgrowing businesses in Asia.'' Paul Miller, Vice President Marketing, HPISS and Blade Systems, said the company, besides focussing at India andChina, to market the DL 180s, would also be looking at the emergingmarkets like Latin America and Russia.

The new server meets the needs of network service providerslooking to manage the networking, gaming, mail and messaging, file andprint and data storage applications of their customers.

R Ravichandran, Intel Sales Director for South Asia said the Intelbased processor technology integrated in HP DL 180 offered a powerfulcombination available at a competitive price with more than enoughthroughput for data processing.

Rajesh Dhar, Country Manager, Industry Standard Servers, HP India,said the server market in India was expected to reach 1.30 lakh piecesby 2008, while the Chinese market will be six times bigger than theIndian market.

''We will be targeting customers who are looking to shift from tower to rack types of servers,'' he added.
