Explosives seized, one arrested
Tiruchirapalli, July 12 (UNI) In a major haul, the police seized a large quantity of explosive materials, meant for illegal supply to the stone quarries at Nedumalai village, under Somarasampettai police limits, here today.
Acting on a tip off from the Tamil Nadu Q branch police wing, a special police team conducted a surprise raid in a hut in the village and seized 984 Electric Detonators, 570 Detonators, 120 kg of Sulphur meant for making explosives, 25 kg of slurry, 180 slurry substances and 400 metres of fuse wire, police sources said.
Police arrested one Jesuraj (45) in this connection, who allegedly stored the explosives in the hut.
However, the police ruled out the possibility of Jesuraj having any links with naxalites or any other banned militant organisations.
Police have registered a case under section 9 (b) (1) (B) of Explosives Act 1884.
