Demolition to continue in Karol Bagh : HC

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Delhi High Court today allowed the Muncipal Corporation of Delhi to continue the demolition of those shops at Kajoori Road in Karol Bagh which have been built on encroached land.

Six shop-owners of Karol Bagh had appealed to the Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Rekha Sharma seeking that the MCD should be restrained from carrying on the demolition since no prior notice was given to them. Since the shops were set up long time back and the owners hold proper licences, they cannot be evicted without serving them show-cause notice, they contended.

MCD counsellor Smita Kapil told the court that MCD has been advised by the court comissioner Pushkar Sood to demolish these shops as they have occupied 100 feet of land, which was meant for a pavement. "This is a public land and has been encroached upon by the shopowners," she said.

Earlier, MCD had taken action against other shopkeepers on the same road but six of them approached the Delhi High Court.
