Cauvery basin reservoirs almost full
Mysore, July 12: The K R Sagar across the Cauvery is expected to be full either tonight or tomorrow with the level this morning at 122.85 ft as against the full level of 124 feet.
With continuous rain in catchment areas, the inflow into the reservoir was 47,857 cusecs with the discharge being 7499 cusecs.
The full level would be attained by tomorrow morning if the same inflow continued, KR Sagar authorities told sources.
Barely three weeks ago the area under cauvery basin faced a drought like situation with the KR sagar level at its lowest of 67,31 feet on June 20 The incresed flow into the reservoir had attracted tourists from across the country with visitors keen to see KR Sagar to the brim and gushing waters downstream the dam.
Hemavathi reservoir in Hassan district, another major dam in the basin was also nearing its capacity level of 2922 feet with the level at 2919.58 ft. Due to the safety of the reservoir the inflow and the discharge were being maintained at 21950 cusecs. The level in Kabini in Mysore was being maintained at 2282.72 ft with the maximum level of 2284 ft. The inflow had come down slightly to 23,097 cusecs with the discharge maintained at 21834 cusecs. The small Harangi dam in Kodadu district saw the level at 2857.58 ft with the inflow being 4778 cusecs and discharge 6272 cusecs.
