8 persons killed in landslide

Dehradun, July 12 (UNI) Eight persons, including women and children, were killed and four others injured when their houses collapsed due to landslide in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

According to state Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre, the incident took place around midnight last night in Gram Devpuri under Gairsen Tehsil following heavy down pour in the area.

The injured have been admitted in Gairsain Primary Health Centre.

Chamoli District Magistrate Officer said Indo-Tibet Border police (ITBP) and police jawans have been pressed into service to retrieve the bodies. So far six bodies have been recovered and search for other two was on.
