Thief shot dead while attempting robbery in NDA

Pune, July 11 (UNI) A security guard of the National Defence Academy (NDA) shot dead a thief here, after he was allegedly attacked by a gang of 15 unidentified persons, who made an aborted attempt to commit robbery in the premises.

Lance Naik S Shetty, in a complaint, said he was on duty at the Academy last night, when the 15-member gang tried to enter the premises to commit robbery. They attacked him. In defence, Shetty opened fire from his service revolver and shot dead one of them, while 14 others taking advantage of the dark fled from the spot, police said.

A case of house break and theft has been registered against the unidentified persons. Further investigations were on based on the some of the documents found on the deceased person, they added.
