Norwegian envoy heads to LTTE-held Kilinochchi
Colombo, July 11: Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brattskar is heading for the LTTE-held Kilinochchi today to hold talks with the leaders of the Tamil Tiger rebels as the undeclared war between the government troops and the rebels continue to escalate mainly in the northern and eastern region.
The government said that it has given its consent for Ambassador Brattskar to visit the rebel-held Kilinochchi a day after he made a request to the government Peace Secretariat for such a visit.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministry approved the request and the Operations Unit of the Peace Secretariat will be arranging the logistics, the government said in a statement.
According to diplomatic sources, this would also be Ambassador Brattskar's farewell call to the LTTE as he is leaving Sri Lanka at the end of his tenure in the next few days.
