Indian delegation inspects Chinese varsities

Bhopal, July 11: In the first event of its kind, a Government of India delegation comprising officials of the Health Ministry and Medical Council of India has visited China with the aim of inspecting univerities where Indian students are studying medicine.

''The inspection, which signified improvement of diplomatic relations between the Asian giants, benefits nearly 5,000 Indian students pursuing undergraduate medical courses starting from 2004.

Of them roughly 1,500-2,000 are from Andhra Pradesh alone,'' said Mr V R Ram who is Chief Executive of the ISO 9001:2000-certified Medico Abroad, consultants for medical courses abroad.

Pointing out that medical education for the middle-income group had become an expensive affair, he told UNI that Chinese medical varsities are providing education of international standard in the affordable range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.

The inspection of Dalian and Jiamusi universities took place between June 4 and 16. The officials involved were Additional Director-General (Health Services) Sambasiva Rao, Indian Embassy Third Secretary Arindam Bhattacharya, National Board of Examination President A Rajasekaran, NBE Executive Director A K Sood, Bangalore Medical College Principal G T Subhas, Assam's Jorhat Medical College Principal D J Borah, Bhopal's Gandhi Medical College Prof B P Dubey and Ahmedabad's B J Medical College Prof Bakul Leuva.
