Village chief shot dead in Asom
Kokrajhar, July 10: Unidentified miscreants shot dead the chairman of a village development committee in lower Asom.
Police said Manomahan Roy, a resident of Upendrapur and the chairman of the Pakriguri village development committee in Gossaigaon was gunned down by the miscreants this evening.
The deceased was an active member of the BPPF(H), an alliance partner of the Congress-led state government.
Meanwhile, the 'Kamatapur' bandh called by different organizations, including the All Koch-Rajbonshi Students Union, affected normal life in the districts of Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Bongaigaon.
However, no untoward incident had been reported from anywhere.
The bandh was called to demand a separate Kamatapur state, engulfing some districts of lower Asom and North Bengal.
