Srinagar, July 10 (UNI) Security forces gunned down two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants holed up in a house in south Kashmir today, a police spokesman said.

He said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and 62 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at Paderpora in Pulwama district following a tip off that some militants were hiding there.

As the security forces were sealing the area, a group of militants opened fire from the house belonging to one Mohammad Shafi Thakor. Security forces immediately tightened the cordon around the house and rescued all the civilians present in nearby houses.

The fire was returned and in the fierce clash both the holed up militants were killed.

The house was also damaged in the shootout, he said.

However, residents alleged security forces fired rockets to blast the house.

Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants. One of the militant was identified as Aiyaz Ahmad Chopan, a local resident.
