Chennai, July 10: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has obtained environmental clearance for three power projects.

The Union Environment and Forest Ministry has accorded clearance for Kundah Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Project (500 MW), the Ennore Coal-fired Thermal Power Project (1000-MW) and the Tuticorin Thermal Power Project (1000 MW), TNEB sources said here today.

While the Ennore project would be realised on a joint venture between National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and the TNEB, the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) would be the promoter for the Tuticorin project.

The process of selecting the executing agency for the Ennore project was also nearing completion. The NLC would float tenders for the project on getting approval from the Centre.

In the case of the Kundah project, the approval of the Central Electricity Authority was expected anytime.

The TNEB was also hopeful of getting environmental clearance for the additional unit project in the Mettur Thermal Power Station, the sources added.
