Rajasthan receives unusual rainfall in 20 districts

Jaipur, July 10 (UNI) Twenty districts in Rajasthan reported 60 per cent above normal rainfall this season while 10 districts received excess rain. Normal rainfall was reported in the remaining 2 districts of the state compared to last year.

The monsoon continues to be active with the highest rainfall of this season reported at Kotada in Udaipur district at 800mm followed by Mount Abu in Sirohi district at 758mm.

Sajjangarh in Banswara district has till now reported 728mm of rain while Sam tehsil in Jaisalmer district received the least rain of this season at 12 mm.

According to a spokesman of the Irrigation and Water Resources Department, due to heavy rains, there were breaches in 13 dams while 36 were overflowing. Five gates if the Kota Barrage were opened and 23800 quesecs of water was released into the Chambal river.

Meanwhile, number of people killed in rain related incidents has increased to 27, which includes the the body of a youth that was fished out from Luni river in Barmer district and a woman and three children, who were swept away in a river in Sirohi district yesterday.

According to weather office, Mount Abu has recorded the highest rain of 120mm in the last twenty four hours in the state while Kotada followed with 100 mm of rain.

Mavli, Rajsamand and Sajjangarh in Banswara recorded 80 mm of rain. Nathdwara and Sirohi district's Shivganga reported 60, and 50 mm respectively.
