Parties resort to agitation protesting against new projects
Visakhapatnam, July 10 (UNI) The opposition parties today resorted to agitation and dharna in front of zilla parishad offices in Visakhapatnam and the nearby Vizianagaram protesting against setting up of bauxite mining ore and aluminium plants in the districts, despite opposition.
The River Waters Committee Convenor and Telegu Desam Party(TDP) MLA, G Srinivasa Rao said the agitation would be intensified, if Government fails to initiate steps to cancel the projects.
The parties also criticised the diversion of eight million gallons of water to Jindal South West Aluminium Limited (JSWAL) Refinery at Boddavara.
The CPI District Secretary J V Satyanarayanamurthy said the godavari river waters were meant for drinking water purposes here, but the government had decided to supply to the projects.
Mr Satyanarayanamurthy alleged that the political parties also opposed the permission given for bauxite mining at Anatagiri to Jindal by the government without obtaining permission from the Pollution Control Board and Forest and Environment department.
