Panic continues to prevail among people
Kolhapur, July 10 (UNI) Panic continues to grip the people residing on banks of the Koyana and Krishna rivers following the rise in water level due to heavy rains and discharge of water from Koyana dam today.
Irrigation department sources said they have discharged about 34,473 cusecs of water from Koyana dam, which has so far completed its water storage capacity upto 83 per cent.
The road connecetivity of some 30 villages was affected in Patan tehsil as the Sangamnagar bridge on Koyana river was submerged, sources said.
Although rains have abated in Kolhapur and Sangli districts, the water level in the Krishna river has increased due to release of water from Koyana dam. Hence the flood situation in Shirol tehsil remained unchanged, where three villages continued to be marooned since the last 13 days, while in ten villages road connectivity was disrupted, district collectorate sources said.
The highest rainfall of 145 mm was recorded in Ajra tehsil of the district during the last 24 hours ended at 0800 hrs this morning.
The district received an average 59.99 mm rainfall during the same period, sources added.
