Chennai, July 10: NASSCOM, the chamber of commerce of the IT software and services industry in the country, today signed an MoU with Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) for the rollout of NASSCOM Assessment of Competence (NAC) across the North Eastern (NE) region.

With this, NASSCOM would aim to conduct NAC test among 20,000 students across eight states including Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim from September this year to January 2008, NASSCOM President Kiran Karnik said in a release here.

''This MoU, initiating our partnership with the NE region marks a significant milestone for NASSCOM and NAC,''he said.

''This will enable us to further identify Indian talents and provide them job opportunities in the high-growth BPO industry,'' he added.

''It will showcase and unleash the human resource potential of NE and help to maintain India's edge in the off-shoring industry with balanced and continued supply of world class human resource,'' he pointed out.

According to a NASSCOM study, the NE region over the years had emerged as an important source for suitable industry talent.

NAC was launched as an industry standard assessment and certification programme to ensure the tranformation of a 'trainable' workforce into an 'employable workforce', hence creating a robust and consinuous pipeline of talent for BPO sector.

The final year students, who would be entering the job market soon, would be the target audience, he added.
