Light firing, bombing in Nandigram once again
Nandigram (East Midnapore), Jul 10: Taking advantage of the absence of police picket between Khejuri and Nandigram last night, miscreants hurled bombs from the Khejuri side.
Police today said light bombing and firing occurred across the Tekhali bridge from the Khejuri side in attempts to terrorise the people on the other side, targeting mainly Sonachura snd Tulaghat in Nandigram.
According to police reports, shots were fired from some CPI(M) camps located very near the Tekhali bridge. Due to incessant rain and flood in the region, police picket had been temporarily removed, not expecting any violence to occur.
Police said the miscreants had taken advantage of the absence of police and fired across the border. However, no one was wounded and people were not targeted in general, police confirmed.
AITC-sponsored Bhumi Uchhed Protirodh Committee members alleged CPI(M) cadres were trying to terorise the people.
CPI (M) East Midnapore District Committee member Ashok Guria however denied the accusation and said it was All India Trinamool Congress' attempt to scandalise their party by propagating false accusations against them.
The situation is presently back in control.
