KWA to introduce spot billing system: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, July 10 (UNI) Kerala Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran today informed the Assembly that Kerala Water Authority (KWA) will introduce ''spot billing system'' in the state.

Replying to questions from Mr Majalamkuzhi Ali (CPM-IND) and others, he said the system would be on the lines of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB.

The Minister, however, clarified that staff strength in the KWA would be increased before the new system was implemented.

Mr Premachandran said the KWA would also introduce a new system of providing water connection to its consumers within seven days after submitting applications. It would be first introduced in Thiruvananthapuram on pilot basis.

He said the government had sought Rs 16 crore from the Centre for improving the functioning of Referral Labs, where the quality of drinking water distributed by the KWA was being tested.

The KWA would also organise Revenue Adalats regularly at division-level in order to solve the grievances of consumers and information in this regard would be disseminate well in advance, he added.
