IG suspended in wealth case

Thiruvananthapuram, July 10 (UNI) The Kerala Government today suspended Inspector General of Police Tomin J Thachenkary from service in connection with a case of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income against him.

The decision was taken on the basis of a report submitted to Home Secretary K J Mathew by Vigilance Director Upendra Verma, who is investigating the case, recommending that Mr Thanchankary might be kept off service.

The report was given in the wake of the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Thrissur Vigilance Special Court by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau that Mr Thachankary had earned Rs 95 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income.

This is for the first time in the state that an IPS officer was being suspended from service on charges of corruption.
