Former SC Judge asks Scientists to do research on environment

Coimbatore, July 10 (UNI) Former Supreme Court Judge Justice K T Thomas today called upon the young Scientists to concentrate more on environmental research to save the world from the adverse consequences of global warming.

Delivering a Convocation address at the Karunya University here, he said some of the eminent scientists recently cautioned that because of the unprecedented rise of the global temperature and the carbon dioxide touching the highest level during the last few decades, human beings and all other creatures would be affected by 2035 AD.

Mr Justice Thomas alleged that the situation had worsened after the destruction of forests and removal of trees with the increase in the use of petroleum products.

He said a new chapter in the Indian Constitution 'Fundamental Duties'advises students to develop scientific temper. Scientists discovered that one grain has the capacity to produce 600 to 700 more grains and this has helped to feed millions in India, he added.

University Chancellor D G S Dhinakaran and Pro Chancellor Paul Dhinakaran were also among others who were present on the occasion.
