Chennai, July 10: In a bid to facilitate the army personnel to stay with their families, the Indian Army has launched a Married Accommodation Project (MAP) here at Pallavaram.

After laying the foundation stone for the Phase I of the MAP, Brig V N Money, Station Commander, the Directorate General of Married Accommodation Project, said reporters that under the Ministry of Defence, 304 dwelling units would be set up in Pallavaram, Nandambakkam and Island Grounds.

This would be implemented in two phases at a total cost of Rs 34.71 crore. The Hyderabad-based MAYTAS Infra Limited would execute the MAP in collaboration with DORSCH Consultants, Mumbai.

In the first phase, 124 units would be constructed in Pallavaram in 18 months, ensuring accommodation for all ranks of servicemen.

While talking about the facilities he said, the MAP at Pallavaram would be better than those specified in the scales of Accommodation for Defence Services, 1983.

There would be car parking facilities for officers and better civic amenities, he added.

In the second phase, additional facilities such as shopping complexes, play schools and a sewage treatment plant would be included, he added.
