Kamat concerned over drug mafia spread in Goa

Kopargaon, July 9 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today said the drug mafia had expanded its operations in the union territory.

The drug mafiosos have married local girls and have acquired property in the state, Mr Kamat said while speaking to reporters after visiting the famed Shirdi Sai Baba Temple. This was his first visit to Shirdi after taking over as Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister said that around 400 drug mafiosos had invested in property in the state according to the findings of a committee which had probed the extent of drug mafia penetration in the state.

The Goa government seized of the problem and was initiating steps to curb the menace, he said.

Mr Kamat also said his Government was taking steps to prevent the rave parties on Goa's beaches.

Meanwhile, Mr Kamat claimed that his Government was stable as it had the support of 23 legislators. There is no political uncertainty, he claimed.

Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan president Jayant Sasane and trustee Ashok Khambekar welcomed the Chief Minister on his arrival at the temple and presented him with an idol of Sai Baba. Mr Kamat was also weighed in 82 kg of ''ladoos'' on the occasion.
