Four ANLA rebels arrested with demand notes
Guwahati, July 9 (UNI) Altogether, four Adivashi National Liberation Army rebels were arrested by the Sivasagar police today along with demand notes and arms.
Sivasagar Superintendent of Police Shyamal Prasad Saikia said the rebels were arrested from the Bimalapur area in Saraipung under Borhat police station, where they have been camping since a week for extending the outfit's activities.
The rebels had served demand notices ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh to local traders, but failed to collect the amount.
Mr Saikia said the rebels were also involved in the abduction of a school student from Borhat last month.
A pistol was also seized from the rebels.
Yesterday, police in Golaghat district of upper Asom also arrested four militants of the outfit and seized a Chinese grenade, 17 rounds of live ammunition, two nine mm pistols and two magazines from them.
Three days ago, a group of six ANLA militants, including a woman, were nabbed at a place under Bokajan police station when they were on their way from Dimapur in Nagaland to Golaghat hospital for treatment of an ultra.
