Dalit leader held for involvement in violent agitation

Rohtak, Jul 9 (UNI) Police have arrested Dalit leader Swadesh Kirar in connection with recent incidents in which two Haryana Roadways buses were damaged by dozens of youths to press their demand for restoration of categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SC) into 'A' and 'B' groups for the purpose of reservation.

Police, which had registered criminal cases in connection with the incidents that occured here on June 30 and July 1, arrested Swadesh Kirar from his house late last night.

Kirar was produced before the Duty Magistrate who remanded him into 14 days' judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the Bhiwani police also arrived here with production warrants to arrest Kirar in connection with an attempt to murder case registered against him in Bhiwani.
