Mumbai, July 9 (UNI) The House of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was adjourned today following the death of former prime minister Chandrashekar in New Delhi yesterday.

Mumbai Mayor Dr Shubha Raul said ''Chandrashekar was above caste based politics and was a great national leader, who commanded respect from all parties.'' Standing committee member and BJP corporator Yogesh Sagar said ''When Chandrashekar was the Prime Minister, he stayed at Hotel Ritz during his visit to Mumbai, when he could have stayed at any 5 star hotel or the state guest house. He was practically a simple man as was evident from one incident when while travelling in a lift, he interacted with the lift-man by calling him his first name.'' The House will resume tomorrow.
