US paedophile deported

Kancheepuram, July 8 (UNI) A US national who jumped parole in a child sex abuse case in New York was deported last evening.

Police sources here said Child Psychologist Allen Arovitz (52) of Brooklyn was convicted on the charge of sexually abusing his patients between 1982-1992.

Following a complaint from the victims' parents, he was arrested in 1992 and a court in New York handed him over a 20-year-sentence.

Arovitz was released in 2004 on parole.

However, he jumped the parole triggering an alert from the Interpol.

Last month, a police team here found Arovitz in a bungalow at Mahabalipuram, a seaside resort near here. Several passports and other documents were seized from him.

He was arrested and produced before a local court and then transferred to a special refugee camp in Chengalpattu.

Following directions from the government, Arovitz was deported to the US last evening via New Delhi.
