Dhaka, July 8: A passenger train on trial run, carrying a 31-member Indian official delegation from Kolkata, reached Darshana station in Bangladesh today to take forward the talks on resumption of Dhaka-Kolkata train service.

Railway sources said the train left Chhitpur railway station near Shealdah of Kolkata for Bangladesh at 7:30 am and reached Darshana station (Bangladesh) at about 10:45 hours IST.

Bangladesh railway and customs officials received the guests from across the border and inspected together the arrangements for immigration and customs checks.

On completion of immigration formalities at Darshana, the train left for capital Dhaka and is expected arrive here at about 18:30 hours IST.

Senior officials of the Indian Home and Railway ministries are scheduled to meet their Bangladesh counterparts in Dhaka on July 9-10.

A delegation from Bangladesh will go to Kolkata later this month for the final round of talks before opening the regular Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka train service sometime in late August.

Dhaka-Kolkata passenger train service was suspended in the wake of India-Pakistan war in 1965.
