Eight still missing in Jhalawar flood

Jaipur, July 8 (UNI) A Search is still on for the eight missing people after a 'jugad'(motorised vehicle) was washed away in a flash flood while crossing a causeway at Ghata Hera under Aklera tehsil in Jahlawar district.

According to police sources 39 people including women and children were travelling in the vechile when the accident took place last evening. The 'jugad' while giving way to a tractor overtunred into a waterway and was washed away in the swirling waters. The villagers were able to save 31, while eight people are still missing.

District police superintendent Rakesh Saxena while talking to UNI over phone said police and the irrigation department have been carrying out a joint search operation for the missing people which include five women and three children but have not been successful till now.

He said the torrential rain lashing neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh in the past few days have caused the flash flood in the area.

Menwhile Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the 8 missing people from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund presuming them dead.
