Mumbai, July 7 (UNI) The Lady Tata Memorial Trust, in association with Tata Memorial Centre, organised a one-day symposium on leukaemia here today.

Tata Memorial Centre director and Lady Tata Memorial Trust trustee Dr K A Dinshaw while briefing reporters on the symposium said experts like Dr Ching Hon Pui from St Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, USA, Dr S H Advani from Asian Institute of Oncology, Mumbai, Dr M B Agarwal from Bombay Hospital, Dr Rajat Kumar from AIIMS, New Delhi, and Dr Vikram Mathews from Christian Medical College, Vellore, participated in the event.

Dr Advani informed that leukaemia is not just one disease, but has several sub-types, each with its own unique molecular signature leading to different prognosis and treatment.

Established in 1932 by Sir Dorabji Tata in memory of his wife Lady Meherbai who died of leukaemia in 1931, the Lady Tata Memorial Trust spends four-fifths of its income on international research with the help of an International Advisory Committee based in London, which invites applications for awards for support for research in leukaemia worldwide.
