Shekhawat will be next President: Rajnath Singh
Agra, July 7: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh has asserted that he was confident of the victory of his party nominee and Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in the July 19 Presidential election.
Attending a party organised by MP Raj Babbar last night, Mr Singh maintained that instead of BJP guidelines all party members would follow their conscience and soul to support Mr Shekhawat.
''Any party extending its support to Mr Shekhawat, will do it for his political credentials,'' he asserted.
Mr Singh claimed that the RJD would surely support Mr Shekhawat as it had not announced its support to any candidate.
On UPA-Left candidate Pratibha Patil, Mr Singh said he and his party did not put her in any controversy, but they only asked the government to clarify the charges levelled against her to prevent the dignity of the top Constitutional post.
On BJP's defeat in the last UP Assembly elections, he said: ''We are not shattered by the defeat, but work thoroughly on pros and cones to overcome it in future.''
