Punjab State Wide Area Network to be completed soon

Chandigarh, Jul 7 (UNI) The Punjab government is all set to complete the establishment of Punjab State Wide Area Network (PAWAN) programme.

Stating this, an official spokesman today said the Punjab Information Technology Department had prepared and executed the plan in collaboration with other departments to leverage the power of information and communication technology (ICT) as a vehicle for improved goverance and service delivery to the citizens.

He said PAWAN was one of the prestigious programmes under this plan which would connect the state headquarters with all the districts, sub divisions and blocks in the state for data, voice and video transmission.

He said this network, which would be completely established within next eight months, would be used for the delivery of various services of different departments through their own counters as well as at common service centres (CSCs).

The spokesman said as per its commitment to provide world class IT service, the state government was all set to eslabilish 2112 common service centres (CSCs) each having cluster of six villages to facilitate the public in general and rural public in particular for establishing direct link with the goverment in a transparent and hassle free manner.

With a view to hosting all the software and database of different departments, the process to establish a State Data centre (SDC) had been expedited, he added.
