Orissa to launch new rural electrification programme

Bhubaneswar, July 7 (UNI) The Orissa government has decided to launch a new rural electricity programme of its own, Energy Minister Suryanarayan Patra told the Assembly today.

The project, named after former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, would be known as ''Biju Gram Jyoti'' Mr Patra told the House while replying to a question of BJP member Draupadi Murmu.

He said the government had already earmarked a sum of Rs 50 crore for the project this year.

Detailed guidelines for the implementation of the project was being finalised and the project would be implemented through the district collectors, the Minister said.
