Locust alert in border areas
Jaipur, July 7 (UNI) Close on the heels of outbreak of locust attack in some African countries, the Locaust Warning Organisation (LWO)in Jodhpur was alerted for any possible spread of the insects in the border areas of India.
Fears are being expressed that the insect may cross over to the Indian peninsula over the Red sea and Arabian Peninsula.
According to official sources at LWO Jodhpur, the organisation has been alerted after a warning issued by Locaust Group at the United Nations Food and Agricultre Organisation(UNFPO). Presently locusts are sweeping the crop growing areas of Somalia.
LWC has five circles and 23 out posts in the Sheduled Desert Area (DSA) to keep constant watch on the locust activities in 2 lakh square km of SDA spread over parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana.
