Lawyer held for hurting PSI

Nagpur, Jul 7 (UNI) A lawyer was arrested here today for allegedly wounding a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) a few days ago.

According to the police, the lawyer Swapnil Khare (32), was arrested for dashing his car against the motorcycle of PSI Pandurang Sonawane, currently posted with the Special Branch (SB) of the city police, on Monday.

Mr Sonawane fractured a leg as a result of the dash, and has been admitted to a private hospital here, the police said.

Mr Sonawane was investigating a case pertaining to a land dispute, in which Khare is a party, the police also said. Khare was unhappy as he thought that the PSI had deliberately given a report unfavourable to him in connection with the case, they said.

On Monday, Khare, who was in a car, spotted Mr Sonawane riding a motorcycle and sought to discuss the case with him. Mr Sonawane suggested that they should stop a little distance away to avoid traffic, but Khare mistook it for a refusal. Infuriated, Khare gave chase in his car and dashed Mr Sonawane's bike from behind, the police said.

An offence was registered under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Khare on the basis of Mr Sonawane's complaint, they said.

Khare lodged a counter-complaint alleging that Mr Sonawane had threatened him, on the basis of which a non-cognisable case had been registered, they added.
