Landslide affects toy train services after mishap

Darjeeling, July 7 (UNI) Continuous rainfall during the last three days caused several landslides in different parts of Darjeeling districts and affected the tracks of DHR toy-train.

Tindharia under Kurseong sub-division had mostly been affected by the landslide. All the trains running from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling and back had been cancelled since last two days.

An officer of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway(DHR) told UNI these regions were declared as landslide-prone zone. Until the tracks were repaired, toy-trains would not run. He also said, ''We expect that the tracks would be repaired within seven days.'' The track was damaged on July 3 near the Tindharia station.

The traffic movement had been controlled in some places of NH 31A and NH 34 due to the landslides, said district police chief Rajesh Subarno.
