Jamshedpur, Jul 07: Several people in the low-lying areas along side the Tue rivers were rendered homeless as water gushed into the slum areas here today.

Official sources said the water level of the Kuarkai crossed the danger level as the sluice gate of Orissa's Rairhngpur were opened.

The areas like Shastri nagar, Bhatia Basti, Kalikanagar were submerged in the flood water.

Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto told sources that he talked to his Orissa counterpart to close the sluice gates at Rairhngpur dam to prevent the flood-like situation.

Mr Mahto, who was in Ranchi, was rushing here as the flood situation could deteriorate further, if prompt actions were not taken.

Meanwhile, the Eaast Singbhum district administration had sounded alert and asked the people to move to safer areas. The authorities also began rescue operation in several areas.

Jamshedpur (West) BJP MLA Saryu Rap also visited the affected areas and looked after the rescue operation.
