Eviction drive; 48 CPM activists arrested
Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, July 7 (UNI) As many as 48 CPI(M) activists, including 30 women were arrested today after they prevented the revenue officials to remove encroachments.
Police said though the officials tried to convince the agitators that encroached lands at Tangellamudi and Sanivarapupeta, belonged to government, they were unsatisfied with the reply and continued to prevent the officials from discharging their duties.
Following this, police arrested the protestors and shifted them to the rural police station here.
Protesting against the police action, CPI(M) cadres staged a dharna in front of the police station, demanding the immediate release of the arrested.
