Andhra Pradesh: BJP flays quota for Muslims
Vijayawada, July 7: BJP Andhra Pradesh unit president Bandaru Dattatreya today accused the state government of providing four per cent reservation for Muslims in education and government employment in the state.
Addressing a news conference here, he alleged that the government was acting as if it had 'extra-constitutional powers' to provide reservation for Muslims. He recalled that the Supreme Court had earlier refused to stay a High Court order which struck down a law providing religion-based five per cent reservation for the community.
He charged the government with playing vote bank politics aimed at the 2009 assembly elections. The reservation would result in social discrimination and divide the muslims on the lines of caste.
BJP state level meeting scheduled for July nine, would deliberate upon the issue, he added.
