AIADMK calls off stir on July 9
Chennai, July 7 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK today called off its proposed strike on July 9 in front of three Government Medical Colleges in Tamil Nadu as the Medical Council of India (MCI) granted recognition and allowed admission to students in the colleges.
The agitation was called off following the MCI's decision to grant permission to the state government to conduct counselling and admit students in Kanniyakumari, Vellore and Theni medical colleges, AIADMK party chief J Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.
The MCI's decision was a victory for the AIADMK, she said.
The AIADMK had decided to agitate against the MCI's earlier decision to derecognise the three colleges.
