Seven held for robbing businessman
Chennai, July 6 (UNI) The city police have arrested a seven-member gang, including two dismissed police constables, on a charge of waylaying and robbing Rs 10,000 in cash and personal belongings from a north indian businessman in Perambur here, last night.
City Police Commissioner Letika Saran told newspersons here today that the gang had intercepted the businessman, Mahaveer, snatched his cash bag and personal jewellery at knife point and fled the spot in a car.
On information, police arrested one Babu and based on his confession, other members of the gang were also arrested and the car seized. They also seized lethal weapons, fake currencies, fake gold jewellery and three cell phones from the car.
The arrested were identified as Gothanda Rao, Akkar Ali, Shanmugam, Paramasivam and dismissed constables Santhosh Raj and Suresh, besides Babu, she added.
