Death toll from Russian coal mine blast reaches 11

MOSCOW, July 6 (Reuters) A Russian coal miner has died in hospital from injuries sustained in a gas explosion at an Arctic colliery on June 25, bringing the death toll from the blast to 11, the operator of the mine said today.

Two miners remain in a stable condition in hospital, said a spokesman for Vorkutaugol, which is majority owned by Russian steel maker Severstal .

An explosion caused by methane gas tore through the Komsomolskaya mine near Vorkuta, about 2,000 km (1,250 miles) northeast of Moscow, in the third major accident since March in Russia's coal industry.

A total of 149 miners were killed in two similar accidents in the Siberian region of Kemerovo in March and May.
