Congress office gutted

Kozhikode, July 6 (UNI) A fire broke out at the Perambra Block Congress Committee Office here, destroying furniture and a colour television set, early today.

Stating that the cause of the mishap was yet to be ascertained, police said a case had been registered and investigation was on.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the locality for some time, as a march called by the Youth Congress activists in protest against the incident turned violent.

However, the police said the situation was under control and security force personnel were camping in the area.

It may be recalled that the Bureau of the Mathrubhumi daily at Perambra was ransacked by unidentified persons about two weeks ago.
