Mangalore, July 5: The salvage operation of the sunken Eritrean ship, MV Denden off Mangalore coast near Tannirbavi near New Mangalore Port would begin after the prevailing bad weather condition returns to normal.

According to sources at the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), the salvage operation could not be taken now due to bad weather.

At a meeting held yesterday at NMPT attended by the port authorities, officials from district administration, State Pollution Control Board, protection and indemnity club members and maritime engineers it was decided to focus their attention to empty the marine diesel and furnace oil by shore-based 'hot tap' process involving the fixing of a tap to the hull of the sunken ship and drain out the fuel using high powered pumps.

As the weather condition was not conducive to take up the operation, the meeting had decided to wait weather becomes normal, the sources said adding that prime attention had also been taken to pump out the fuel without causing any pollution.
