Navy airlifts ailing crew member from a cargo ship

Kochi, July 5 (UNI) The Navy today airlifted an ailing crew member from a cargo ship to the mainland for treatment following a message from a the ship which achored about eight nautical miles off Kochi.

The ship M V Crystal Ace, on passage from Kharg Islan, Iran to Yosu, Korea, requested the Navy for medical assistance for one of its crew, whose condition was reported to be very serious due to internal bleeding.

Due to the rough sea conditions, it was not possible for the navymen to transfer the patient by a boat. However, within ten minutes after receiving the request, the naval authorities pressed a Chetak helicopter of the 321 Squadron of INS Garuda for shifting the patient, a naval release said.

The patient Mr Elmer D Ramos was successfully airlifted from the ship and brought to the naval air station where he was given first aid at the MI Room of INS Garuda from where he was subsequent, the release added.
