Geelani remains under house arrest for the second day
Srinagar, July 5 (UNI) Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house arrest for the second day today, official sources said.
It was a ''precautionary measure'' as he has given a call for protest demonstrations in the valley, they said.
A spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference Aiyaz Akber told UNI a large number of police personnel remained deployed outside the Hyderpora house of Geelani since yesterday morning.
Geelani was informed by a senior police officer that he had been put under house arrest and could not leave until further orders.
Mr Aiyaz said Geelani was scheduled to lead a demonstration in protest against the alleged human rights violations by the security forces, particularly in Bandipora and Kupwara incidents.
