CPI(M) demands Ombudsman to resolve land issues in AP

Hyderabad, July 5 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politbureau member Sitaram Yechury today demanded a statutory Ombudsman to resolve all land-related issues in Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Yechury, who had a meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh in New Delhi on the issue, lamented that the Congress Government had failed to come out with any concrete proposal to resolve land-related issues during the talks between State Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao and leaders of the Left parties earlier this week.

He questioned the Government as to why it had not implemented the Koneru Ranga Rao Committee report even eight months after its submission.

Denying the charge that the Left parties were politicising issues relating to land, Mr Yechury said if the problem was not genuine, lakhs of people would not have joined their stir for occupying land and alloting it to the poor.

He asked the ruling Congress to fulfill it poll promise of constructing 60 lakh houses at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore.
