3 PIOs fined under RTI in Nagaland

Kohima, July 05: The Nagaland Information Commission (NIC) has here today imposed a fine of Rs 10,500 each on the PIOs of the Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation, Office of the Chief Engineer, PHE department and Office of the Chief Engineer of PWD (Housing) for failing to provide Government Registered Class-I Contractors Union on time.

According to official sources, the NIC delivered its judgment on an appeal filed by the Union yesterday and directed the PIO (Public Information Officer) of Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation to pay the amount as penalty for not furnishing information and for the delay of 42 days at Rs 250 per day.

In its decision notice issued on May two last, the Commission had directed the PIOs to appear before it on May 14 last, to showcause as to why he should not pay a penalty of Rs 250 per day for each day of delay subject to maximum of Rs 25,000.

In a similar order, the NIC directed the PIO in the office of Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to pay a penalty of Rs 10,500 for failure to furnish information to the appellant within the prescribed time limit on thirty days without reasonable cause as specified in the Right to Information Act.

It directed the PIO to pay Rs 10,500 as penalty for the delay of information. The Commission also directed the PIO in the office of the Chief Engineer to pay Rs 10,500 as penalty for delay of information.
