Srinagar, July 5: Security forces gunned down all the three militants who remain holed up in a house for more than 10hrs in Ganderbal area of Central Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Razzak said that the holed up militants were killed last night after about 10-hour long operation.

SSP said search in the area was still going on.

He said one of the militants was a local, while two others are believed to be foreigners.

Official spokesman said troops of five and 15 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at village Pathipora-Saloora, about half a km away from the main Srinagar-Baltal-Amarnath route yesterday morning.

They said as the security forces were sealing the area, militants entered the house of Ghulam Nabi Bhat. However, security forces immediately tightened the cordon around the house and repeatedly asked militants to surrender.

A police spokesman said police and security forces rescued about 250 residents, including women and children, from the area to safer places.

Sharp shooters later took positions in the nearby houses.

However, when a security forces party tried to storm the house, the militants opened fire. The fire was effectively returned by the security forces.
