SW Monsoon creates havoc in Cauvery Basin
Mysore, Jul 4: The active South-West monsoon continued itsdestruction of crops and property in which three lives were lost and221 houses collapsed in the Cauvery basin region.
The heavy rains which lashed out Madikeri districts since last fewdays gave some relief with the water level in flood hit areas receding.
The recent rain claimed three lives in the district besides morethan 221 houses collapsed in the district. The district administrationhas estimatedthat the total loss to be Rs 13.50 crore.
Following the rains in the catchment areas of Krishnaraja Sagarreservoir, near here and Kabini reservoir continued to increase withheavy inflows. The KRS level which has raised more then five feet sinceyesterday stood at 102.30 feet against the maximum level of 124.80feet. The inflow was 50040 cusecs and outflow was restricted to 4693cusecs for irrigation purposes.
While the Kabini reservoirauthorities have asked people living onthe banks of the Kapila to move to safer places due to rising waterlevel.
Since the outflow was increased 23209 cusecs as the level reachedalmost full level 2281.27 feet against the maximum level of 2204 feet.The inflow was 33443 cusecs following the heavy downpour in catchmentareas of Waynad in Kerela.
While the Harangi reservoir touched 2848.04 feet against the full capacity of 2859 feet. The inflow was 8714 cusecs.
Meanwhile, the Hemavathy reservoir in Hassan district continued toreceive heavy inflows with more then 35000 cusecs and the level todaystood at 2905 feet against the maximum level of 2922 feet.
Heavy rains reported in Sakshelshapura, Alur taluks with crops of hundreds of acres submerged due to flesh foods.
