Honeywell selects Wind River Sys for NASA prog
Mumbai, July 4: Bangalore-based Wind River Systems, one of theglobal leaders in Device Software Optimisation (DSO), today announcedthat it has been selected by Honeywell Aerospace to support thedevelopment of NASA's New Millennium Program Space Technology 8 (ST8)Dependable Multiprocessor.
The contract marks that for the first time, a Linux platform has been selected by Honeywell for a space mission.
Honeywell Aerospace is the prime contractor for NASA's ST8Dependable Multiprocessor project. Wind River Platform for NetworkEquipment, Linux Edition, will be the underlying operating system tosupport the processing of science and experiment data.
''One of the biggest challenges when developing a dependablemultiprocessor is enabling a COTS board to work in the harsh conditionsin space,'' in a statement said Venkatesh Kumaran, country manager ofWind River.
